Service Description
This 8-week foundational figure drawing course introduces students to the fundamentals of drawing the human figure through direct observation of a live model. Designed for both high school students and adults, the course is suitable for beginners as well as artists who wish to strengthen their observational drawing skills. Working from a live model, students will learn how to observe and interpret the human figure, focusing on gesture, proportion, structure, anatomy, movement, and light and shadow. Each session will combine guided instruction with drawing practice, gradually moving from short gesture studies to longer, more developed figure drawings. Course Progression Week 1: Introduction to Figure Drawing & Gesture — capturing movement and the overall action of the pose Week 2: Proportion & Measurement — understanding the relationships between different parts of the body Week 3: Structure & Form — building the figure using simple geometric shapes and basic forms Week 4: Anatomy & Major Body Masses — understanding the underlying structure of the human body Week 5: Foreshortening & Perspective — drawing the figure from challenging angles and poses Week 6: Light, Shadow & Volume — creating a sense of three-dimensional form Week 7: Longer Pose Drawing — combining observation, proportion, structure, and value Week 8: Final Figure Drawing — applying the skills learned throughout the course to create a completed drawing Each class will include a combination of instructor demonstrations, short pose exercises, and extended drawing sessions with a live model. Students will be encouraged to develop their own artistic approach while building a strong foundation in observation and figure drawing. No prior figure drawing experience is required. This course is designed to help students develop confidence in drawing the human figure through a structured and supportive studio experience.
