Award of Merit at the PTA (Lone Star) Art Reflections competition

So proud of my student for receiving an Award of Merit at the PTA (Lone Star) Art Reflections competition. She is in 6th grade and competed in the Grades 6–8 division, where over a thousand students submitted their work. Her dedication, creativity, and courage to express her story truly stood out.

This year’s theme was “I Belong.”

To better understand her artwork, I’d like to share her artist statement as well:

“I belong to my parents’ memories. This summer, my family visited my parents’ hometown, a fishing village in Korea. Everything felt new to me—the smells, the sights, the people—but also strangely familiar. Most of all, when I saw how happy my parents were, I felt like I had traveled from the future and become part of one of their memories.”

I am so proud of her accomplishment and can’t wait to see where her artistic journey takes her next. 🌟
